I use FTP95 LE for a long time to upload about 20 accounts.

Today FTP works on all but 1 account. Yesterday it worked for that account too.

But today the popup says FTP has to close, sorry.

Thanks, any ideas appreciated.

The answer is :
The administrator of the server allowed only 1 port for PASV...!!
I asked him to have 256 ports.
It's ok now.

I have the same problem, but I found a simple workaround that maybe work for you (in my case I only had to transfer and overwrite 3 files):

First, I checked if the server lets me upload new files instead of overwriting them, as well as removing them. So I made copies of the files with other names (i.e. index-copy.html) and FileZilla allowed me to upload them. Then I deleted the original files and renamed the new ones to what they were supposed to be. That's all.

I still need to contact my hosting providers, but at least I've already made the changes.

Play best golf

As “plan Bs” go Quiros is a keeper, a megawatt smile combined with crazy length and the type of quick wit golf writers dream of, even on deadline. Almost enough to make Spanish standard bearer Seve Ballesteros beam with pride. Almost with Wholesale golf clubs.
“Seve has the hands of a surgeon,” Quiros laughed. “I have the hands of a bricklayer.”
And the swing speed of a Formula 1 driver. Paired with Gary Woodland, the new face of American power, Quiros bombed with abandon, blasting driver, 8-iron for birdie. It’s the kind of anecdote that gets green jackets looking for new tee boxes with TaylorMade R11 Driver.
More subdued but just as intriguing is Fisher, who could not escape the synergy of the week following a 3-under 69.
Fisher, you may recall, set out at Turnberry two years ago deep in the hunt with one eye on the leaderboard and the other on his cell phone. His wife, Joanne, was back home in England expecting the birth of the couple’s first child, which was four days overdue. Fisher made a quadruple bogey-8 at Turnberry’s fifth and tied for 13th but he made it home in time for the birth.
This time Joanne is back home awaiting No. 2 and, so far, Fisher has avoided a snowman with R11 Driver.
“Last time, she hung on and I didn’t, so hopefully I can hang on this time,” said Fisher, who was aboard Lee Westwood’s plane late Sunday that was forced to make an emergency landing when the cabin filled with smoke.
And if all else fails, Europe has Garcia. El Nino used to live for this, playing his best TaylorMade Burner 2.0 Irons when the lights were brightest, but that was a nasty breakup and a dark episode ago.
The Spaniard took a sabbatical to clear his head at the end of last year, drove a Burner 2.0 Irons at the Ryder Cup, an exhibition he used to own, and has emerged re-energized. His opening 69 at Augusta National follows an eighth-place finish at Bay Hill.

Hi there,
I am posting from France.
I have some questions about ftp in passive mode.
I am a beginner in ftp transfers and, I am involved in a problem that I am unable to solve alone. So please can you help me! Excuse my English which probably will make you laugh sometimes…

Here is the situation:
> 70 “slave” ftp clients around France are sending files at any moment to a hosted ftp server.
> 1 “master” ftp client, at the main site, is connecting to the server every minute to get the files sent by the slaves.
> At the main site, the files follow a specific process and the master ftp client returns them back to the server in a queue, waiting to be downloaded by the 70 slaves ftp clients.
All ftp transfers are using the passive ftp.

First question: Is that clear?

This workflow has some problems. I will try to explain now what I get with my log files from the master ftp client and ask my 2 first questions:

> When the master is trying to connect to the server, the server always selects the same socket for passive mode transfer:
…..
|> PASV
|< 227 Entering Passive Mode (x1,x1,x5,x9,254,79)
…..

Is it normal? I though that the server was supposed to choose a different socket for each transfer!

> When the master ftp client is trying to connect to the server the error message here under happens very often:

            |> PASV
|< 425 Unable to listen, too many pending PASV requests from same client IP.

It looks like a limited number of simultaneous connections between the master and the server! Is there a limit for the number of connections at the same time on the socket?

Thank you for your help.

After that, I you are ok, we can keep on with new questions.

Gael

The answer is simple. Usually this message apear because the home disk space (quota limit) is reached. So, buy more space or delete some files.

File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is a standard network protocol used to exchange and manipulate files over a TCP/IP-based network, such as the Internet. FTP is built on a client-server architecture and utilizes separate control and data connections between the client and server applications. FTP is used with user-based password authentication or with anonymous user access

Applications were originally interactive command-line tools with a standardized command syntax, but graphical user interfaces have been developed for all desktop operating systems in use today. The original specification of the File Transfer Protocol was published as RFC 114 on 16 April 1971 and later replaced by RFC 765 (June 1980) and RFC 959 (October 1985)(Clark, 2003, p.416), the current specification. Several proposed standards amend RFC 959, for example RFC 2228 (June 1997) proposes security extensions and RFC 2428 (September 1998) adds support for IPv6 and defines a new type of passive mode.

from the Ipswitch Knowledge Base

The 550 error is a message from the server stating that the account you have currently logged in as does not have permission to perform the action you are attempting. You may be trying to upload to the wrong directory or trying to delete a file.

This problem can also be caused by a firewall with a "no ftp write" permission set.

I would suggest you contact the Host Admin and see if they can help

I am trying to update a friend's site for him (change some text, add some photos) and so I set up an FTP (using FileZilla) into his hosting account. The files that I am trying to modify are .HTML files. I copied some of them over to a local folder on my computer, made one change to a file to test it out (index.html file) and then tried overwriting the old hosted file with the updated file. However, when I do that, I get this error:

Status:	Connection established, waiting for welcome message...
Response:	220 Microsoft FTP Service
Command:	USER lawyer
Response:	331 Password required for lawyer.
Command:	PASS ********
Response:	230 User lawyer logged in.
Status:	Connected
Status:	Starting upload of C:\Users\Marc\Documents\Warren\index.html
Command:	CWD /
Response:	250 CWD command successful.
Command:	TYPE A
Response:	200 Type set to A.
Command:	PASV
Response:	227 Entering Passive Mode (74,39,248,241,19,140).
Command:	STOR index.html
Response:	550 index.html: Access is denied.
Error:	Critical error

Any idea how to fix this or what is wrong? I tried manually changing the permissions on the file and the entire folder to 755 and 777, but they keep reverting back to their original settings. I'm sure it is a permissions setting problem, but I don't know what to do to fix it.

Thanks.

Trying to FTP some files to a secure FTP site using Wininet dll. I can logon to site via IE with url/userid/password and manually upload with no problem. When I try using Wininet dll, I get 'internet connection error' 12007 which means 'internet name not resolved'. This has had me stumped for weeks now. I've tried everything. Documentation from MS is pretty vague. Anyone got any ideas? I've tried using host name with https: prefix and without, also with sftp: prefix, I've tried using passive connection and non passive. Tried FTP port and HTTP port, tried ftp service and http service. I admit I'm no FTP expert, I just need to copy some files from A to B, seems like it should not be this difficult. Thanks.

you could also use a DOS Batch script to FTP the files and then Schedule task manager to run the script, cheap way of doing it.

You can definitely use WS_FTP Pro for this. You may synch to any location, virtually any device, drive, or server. Easily define which files get transferred and how new or updated files are handled. If you need more information, try using this link.. http://www.ipswitchft.com/products/ws_ftp_professional/features.asp#aSchedule

I have files (about 2mb) created everyday on a server, I need to FTP those files daily to another site. Can we install/use WS_FTP_PRO on the server where the files are being created and automate the FTP process using a service account?

So you can't transfer your site from ANY web host, to ANY desktop? Have you tried just pulling down parts of the site at a time?

Gee, I am wondering then, that if you have done everything possible maybe it is not your side that is the issure but the servers you are connecting to.

You have increased your timeout values to the highest, right?

With WS FTP you can increase the default time out to 120 or if you need more, see the KnowledgeBase Article below...

Hi everyone,

I don't know what it is or why it happens but I have never managed to upload or download my websites using FTP completely without any timeouts, breaks, retries etc. This problem is not knew for me as it happens every time for last few years! I have been trying to use passive/active modes, direct and 'from behind the router' connection to the Internet, at least four different IPSs, Linux, Mac OS, Windows operating systems with and without firewalls and probably half a tonne of different FTP software and FTP hosting (free and commercial).

Did/does anyone experience anything similar? I would be grateful for sharing any information. It gets me mad sometimes when I have to transfer large number of different small files almost separately. And yet, very often, I find empty files, errors etc.

Thanks.
