I'm using an old version of wsftp95.exe. I don't know how my files on the remote became encrypted. There's nothing in the old ftp95 format that offers that option. How do I DEcrypt the files on my remote side?

The free WS_FTP LE download is produced by Ipswitch. The Support available for LE is listed here: http://wsftple.com/support.aspx

If you purchase the lastest version of WS_FTP Professional, which is Windows 7 compatible, you have the option of including a Support Agreement with the new license. The Support Agreement will give you full phone and email Support on WS_FTP Professional with the Technical Support team at Ipswitch.

You can find the purchase options for WS_FTP Pro at http://www.IpswitchFT.com

I last upgraded my WS_FTP to version 7.04 2001.12.20. I still have my install files from the original install of version 6. I use WS_FTP to upload html pages to my web site. I like it just fine.

But I am migrating to a Windows 7 machine, and would like to install it there. But I don't want to find it crashing during install due to incompatibility with Windows 7 and be the first install to junk-up the registry at two weeks into setting the new machine up!

Is the download available through WSFTPLE.COM site a supported ipswitch product?

Can anyone send me the serial number for WS_FTP LE? I am trying to download and active the new version. I previously used WS_FTP32 v3.0, but it is no longer working. So, I looked for an upgrade and found LE v12. I am a gov't user, so the program should be free. The install is asking for a serial number to activate the product. If I could launch the software, I could get the serial number off the Help/About page. But, since the product is not activated the software is not fully installed and I cannot launch the tool. Maybe I am missing something. The IPSWITCH page said the serial number has not changed for two years. Can someone help? Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving.

Ipswitch License Agreement

READ THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THIS AGREEMENT CAREFULLY BEFORE LOADING, AND/OR OTHERWISE USING THE SOFTWARE. THIS AGREEMENT REPRESENTS THE ENTIRE AGREEMENT CONCERNING THE SOFTWARE BETWEEN YOU AND IPSWITCH, AND IT SUPERCEDES ANY PRIOR PROPOSAL OR UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN YOU AND IPSWITCH. BY DOWNLOADING OR INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE, AND/OR USING THE SOFTWARE, YOU ARE ACCEPTING AND AGREEING TO THE TERMS OF THIS AGREEMENT, AND ARE THEREBY CREATING A CONTRACTUAL AGREEMENT BETWEEN YOU AND IPSWITCH. IF YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO BE BOUND BY THE TERMS OF THIS AGREEMENT, YOU SHOULD NOT DOWNLOAD, INSTALL, OR USE THE SOFTWARE, AND PROMPTLY RETURN THE SOFTWARE AND ASSOCIATED DOCUMENTATION.

1. LICENSE GRANT
Ipswitch grants to you, and you accept, a non-exclusive and non-transferable license to use software program(s) provided by Ipswitch, and the accompanying user documentation ("Documentation"), (collectively, the "Software") as purchased or accepted by you only as authorized in this Agreement. In the case of WS_FTP Professional (for which a license fee applies), the license is perpetual, and in the case of WS_FTP LE (for which no license fee applies), the license is limited to one year (any may be renewed by updating or verifying your email address in Ipswitch's license registration database as described below).

You may not assign, transfer, rent, or sublicense the Software (any violation of the foregoing will result in automatic termination of the license without any right of refund). The Software consists of proprietary products of Ipswitch or its third party suppliers, and the proprietary rights that protect such property may include, but are not limited to, U.S. and international copyrights, trademarks, patents, and trade secret laws of general applicability. All right, title and interest in and to the Software are and shall remain with Ipswitch or its third party suppliers, as applicable. This Agreement does not convey to you any interest in or title to the Software, but only a limited right of use revocable in accordance with its terms.

You may use the Software on a specific number of computers, as identified at time of purchase. Each instance of a Virtual Machine (VM) and each instance of a session in an environment where multiple users share computer resources are considered one computer. For Software in which more than one feature set (e.g. "standard", "premium") is available, you may solely use one specific feature set. If you desire a different feature set, you must purchase an upgrade. Feature sets are defined in the Documentation and identified at time of purchase.

2. INSTALLATION AND RESTRICTIONS
You assume responsibility for selection of the Software to achieve your intended results and for the installation, use, and valid operation of the Software. You agree at all times to maintain records specifically identifying the Software and the personal computers on which the Software is being used and to make such records available for inspection by Ipswitch during normal business hours.

You may make copies of the software media solely for backup, disaster recovery, or archival purposes, which copies shall contain Ipswitch's copyright and other proprietary notices. You may not modify, translate, adapt, decompile, disassemble, decrypt, extract, or otherwise reverse engineer or attempt to discover the confidential source code and techniques incorporated in the Software. You may not create derivative software based on any trade secret or proprietary information of Ipswitch.

3. EMAIL REGISTRATION
You must register your license to WS_FTP Professional and WS_FTP LE, and you must maintain a current email address in Ipswitch's license registration database. Annual registration (and update or verification of your email address) is required for WS_FTP LE.

4. LICENSE FEES
License fees paid by you for WS_FTP Professional are in consideration of the licenses granted under this Agreement. If the Software is under evaluation and no license fees have been paid, this Agreement will expire at the end of the evaluation period unless Licensee has purchased a license key to enable subsequent activation.

5. TERMINATION
This License Agreement is effective until terminated. In the case of WS_FTP LE, this License Agreement and your license hereunder will automatically terminate after one year, unless your registration is renewed as described above, in which case it will continue from year to year for so long as such registration is renewed. You may terminate this License Agreement at any time. The License Agreement will also terminate if you fail to comply with any terms and conditions set forth elsewhere herein. You agree upon any termination to destroy the Software together with all copies, modifications and merged portions in any form, and certify in writing that you have done so.

6. LIMITED WARRANTY
For thirty (30) days (the "Warranty Period") from your date of purchase, Ipswitch warrants for your benefit alone, that (i) the Software will substantially conform to the applicable Documentation and (ii) the media on which the Software is distributed and the Documentation (if any) are free from defects in materials and workmanship and, (iii) during the Warranty Period, the Software will operate substantially in accordance with the Documentation. If during the Warranty Period an error in the Software occurs, you may return the Software to Ipswitch for either repair or replacement, or if so elected by Ipswitch, refund of the license fee paid by you under this Agreement.
THE FOREGOING ARE THE ONLY WARRANTIES PROVIDED BY IPSWITCH AND IPSWITCH DISCLAIMS ANY AND ALL OTHER WARRANTIES, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO, ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.

7. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
Because computer software is inherently complex and may not be completely free of errors, it is your responsibility to verify your work and to make backup copies, and Ipswitch will not be responsible for your failure to do so. Ipswitch's cumulative liability to you or any party for any loss or damages resulting from any claims, demands, or actions arising out of or relating to this Agreement shall not exceed the license fee paid to Ipswitch for the applicable Software.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT WILL IPSWITCH BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL, ECONOMIC, EXEMPLARY, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF THE USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE IPSWITCH PRODUCTS OR SERVICES, INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, DAMAGES OR COSTS RELATING TO THE LOSS OF PROFITS, BUSINESS, GOODWILL, DATA, OR COMPUTER PROGRAMS, EVEN IF IPSWITCH HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. SOME STATES DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OR LIMITATION OF INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, SO THE ABOVE EXCLUSION OR LIMITATION MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.

8. U.S. GOVERNMENT RESTRICTED RIGHTS
If the Software and Documentation (collectively the "Software") are acquired on behalf of a unit or agency of the United States Government this provision applies.
For units of the Department of Defense (DoD), this Software is supplied only with "Restricted Rights" as that term is defined in the DoD Supplement to the Federal Acquisition Regulations, 52.227-7013(c)(1)(ii) and:
Use, duplication or disclosure by the Government is subject to restrictions as set forth in subparagraph (c)(1)(ii) of the Rights in Technical Data and Computer Software clause at DFARS 52.227-7013. Contractor: IPSWITCH, Inc., 10 Maguire Road, Lexington, MA 02421
Government personnel using this Software, other than under a DoD contract or GSA Schedule, are hereby on notice that use of this Software is subject to restricted rights, which are the same as, or similar to those specified above.

9. GENERAL
This Agreement will be governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts without regard to conflict of law principles. The export of this product is governed by the U.S. Bureau of Industry and Security under Export Administration Regulations and may be exported to appropriate countries and end-users based upon their license exception. Export compliance information for each Ipswitch product can be found on the Ipswitch website at http://www.ipswitch.com/company/export_compliance/product.asp The appropriate classification for each product is specified on Ipswitch's website. You shall remain fully responsible for and certify compliance with all applicable Export laws and regulations, and you agree to indemnify Ipswitch from all costs, expenses, and liability for such compliance.

VERY GOOD NEWS FOLKS...

WS FTP LE is back and it is also still free ... check out the web site
at http://www.wsftple.com/

Ipswitch WS_FTP LE is offered free on a one-year subscription basis. WS_FTP LE may be used only in accordance with the terms of the written license agreement that accompanied it. WS_FTP LE may not be distributed by any means without written permission from Ipswitch, Inc.

I would guess that when the year is over you can renew the subscription by going to http://www.wsftple.com/renew/ ... and entering the appropriate info. After the download in the WSFTP Pro folder there is a "Manage License" link you can use to refresh the current license.

From the Release Notes....
WS_FTP 12.3 LE: WS_FTP 12.3 marks the return of WS_FTP LE, the free version of the popular WS_FTP. When you download and install WS_FTP LE, you receive a one-year, renewable license. You will receive a reminder 30 days before you must renew your license to continue using WS_FTP LE....Check all your email folders...you will reiceve an email from Ipswitch with the appropriate information for use, activation and registration.

WS-FTP LE was deleted in about 2003 with version 6 being the last. You can still find a copy of it at http://www.oldversion.com or just go directly to their WS-FTP LE download page at http://www.oldversion.com/WS-FTP-Limited-Edition.html. Ipswitch cited the reason for the deletion being incompatibilty with newer versions of Windows but, I have used WS-FTP LE 6 on Windows XP, Vista and 7 with no adverse affects so far, although be warned your experience may differ.

I had WS-FTP Pro 2007 installed on my PC along with WS-FTP LE 6, with the installation of WS-FTP 12 LE (I guess I downloaded it to the wrong folder) it replaced my Pro 2007 but, imported my "sites". So, it looks like I am stuck with WS-FTP LE for the next year after which I will stick with it or revert back to WS-FTP Pro 2007 via the MYIPSWITCH account download.

Note: After using WS-FTP LE for a day I realized that I really, really, reeeeeeeeally missed the "Workspace" feature of the "Pro" version so, I unintalled WS-FTP LE 12 and redownloaded the WS-FTP Pro 2007 via the "MyIpswitch Account".

Hope you all have fun with WS-FTP LE, Paul

This is a program i created in vb2010 (vb.net), it was meant to be a shell extension of some sort, but i failed to do that so i made a simple gui that loads to the bottom right but above the taskbar and you just drag any file (one file at a time) from any location and it will upload it with a progress bar and stats (check the screenshots).
It's a pretty nifty tool, im not going to release it to the public though, you can PM me for more infomation.
Please check all of the screenshots, im going to upload some more.
Main bullet points:

Faster than most FTP Clients

Will hit your maximum upload speed

One-click opening, you can can pin it to your start menu

Just drag and drop to upload any file, any size limit

Once it's done it will output an http:// link w/o your ftp
details (I've never seen this implemented into a ftp client before so I added it).

yo pete,

it does matter for some stuff - security is a huge consideration as well as speeds and 'user friendly' features. some free ones are kinda basic.

here's a link showing all the features of the ipswitch clients.

cheers!
