Every now and then I also still use WS FTP LE 6, it is currently installed on my Windows Vista Laptop and works to perfection. When I do an "edit" I have both the left(Local) and right(Remote) sides open. I highlight/click the file to "edit" on the "Local" side, it opens in "Notepad", I make the change, close Notepad/Save file, then I upload to the "Remote" side. If you try editing from the "Remote" side it actually downloads a copy of the file in a "Temp Folder" on your PC so, when you "edit" it you are not changeing the file on the "Remote" side but, the one in the "Temp Folder". You need to download the file you want to "edit" to the "Local" side, make the changes then upload it to the "Remote" side. I have just used my WSFTP LE 6 to try it out, it worked fine so, I would suggest you look at something that may have changed on you PC rather than the WS-FTP LE program itself since you say that you have used it for a long time with no issue. I have been using WSFTP-LE 6.0 the free version forever. Suddenly I can no longer Edit! The file opens up in Notepad as usual and I edit my stuff and save it as I always do. But when I reopen the file my changes are not saved! Also when I move the file to the Local System side I can no longer view it as I get an error message stating cannot find file! What has changed with this programme? Why am I no longer able to use it?

When I update a file the name of the file changes to uppercase letters and I have to rename the file to lowercase letters before I upload it. How can I prevent the file name from becoming caps? This is driving me NUTS! My older Ipswitch version doesn't do this!

The binary transfer mode transfers a file as an exact copy of the original, and should be used for transferring all binary files, including bitmaps, executables, or compressed files (.bmp, .jpg, .exe, .zip). (Binary mode contrasts with ASCII mode which treats a file as text, translating the end-of-line characters during transfer.) from the Knowledge Base... Question/Problem: I can't see any images on my page or they show up as a broken link. Answer/Solution: There are many reasons why your "Picture" may not be displayed. Here are the most common problems. 1.) The filename of the picture you loaded has the wrong case tense. Check your HTML code. If the image name is specified in the HTML page as Image.JPG, then make sure the image you upload is called Image.JPG, and not image.jpg. If your images are being transferred in uppercase and you need them to be transferred in lower case, then you should enable the "Force lowercase of remote names" in Edit | Transfer for that site. 2.) The link in your HTML page may point to an Invalid directory. Sometimes when you save your HTML page on your local drive it captures the directory path that your image was in, i.e. c:\images\image.jpg. Then when you upload the page, the HTML file is looking for the image in the c:\images directory and you don't have an \images directory on the server. If you are an inexperienced web designer, we suggest you put your graphic files in the same directory as your HTML pages. Here is an example of what the code should look like (Of course image.jpg would be replaced with your image name): <td width="33%" align="center"><img src="image.jpg" alt="image.jpg (25980 bytes)" /></td> 3.) The easiest explanation. You didn't upload the image file to where it needs to be. This usually occurs if you have not transferred your files into the correct directory on the remote site. You would need to check the code in your html to see if the picture belongs in a sub-directory below your main web folder such as public_folder\images. 4.) Auction sites such as Ebay. If you can see the picture on your Web Site, but cannot see them in your auction site, then the most likely reason is that you are using the wrong address on your auction site. A good test would be to try the address you are using in your web browser. You should get the picture displayed on the page and not the entire web site. Once you verify that the address is correct, you can always cut and paste the URL into your auction site. If at that point the picture is not displayed on the auction site, then you can rule out that the problem exists with your web site. If you do not know how to figure out the URL for your picture, then you should check with your web host provider. In most cases the Web provider will have a help guide on determining your web address. I am using Microsoft Front Page to create an html page with a few words and a photograph. I have embedded the photograph (file insert, save) and it shows up in the page when I open the htm that is on my hard drive. When I send the htm file up with ws_ftp the picture space is blank. I have done this innumerable times previously, but am stumped now. The src = shows the full path on the hard drive. I have tried limiting that to name.jpg. I have the actual jpg on the server in the same folder. Since the page with embedded picture shows in a browser from the hard drive, I think the problem is in the transfer. Any ideas? This must be basic.

I'm trying to understand how WS_FTP handles SFTP. Here's my situation: We're connecting to a vendor, they mandate SFTP on an odd port. I have all the firewall pieces taken care of, and we can connect, but apparently the SSH keypair authentication isn't working. The vendor has provided me two Public SSH keys, and RSA and a DSA. I can't find anywhere in WS_FTP 2007 Pro to import these keys, though when I set up the SFTP conneciton, and connect for the first time, it pops up a screen about an "Untrusted SSH Server Key". I chose to "trust this key", then there is an entry that appears in Tools > Options > SSH > Trusted Hosts. So, can anyone tell me if the "Trusted Host" the same as importing the vendor's public key? If it is, then why am I getting the error "Failed SSH User Authentication" when trying to connect? I feel like I'm missing something. I've used other applications that allow you to import a public key to use, then select that key for a specific site.

I am looking to buy off the shelf software, or paying a developer for a program that functions in the following respect: as to pdf reports that I upload to a server, these are made available for downloading to my clients, but with the following features (best described by a rather clumsy explanation): (i) Client goes to my web page and enters 2 identifying variables that I gave the report when it was uploaded to the server; (ii) the program would then automatically send that client the url link to the report on the server (having automatically looked for it and found it on the server) or, if the report has not yet been uploaded to the server, the program would send an auto reply/email to the client as soon as the report is uploaded to the server (ie, everytime I upload a report, the program will search the server to see if that report has been the subject of a report request sent in by the client. My goal: when my home inspection reports are done and uploaded to the server, the task of getting it to the client is out of my hands. No emailing the client a password, etc. to retrieve the report. Help. Just want to know where I should be looking to obtain this kind of a program or who best to go to to design it for me. Thanks.

Both web sites are up and still running. But when I open the Ipswitch WS_FTP program to upload additional files to the web, the two folders for these websites are missing from the remote directory (I'm not even sure my language is correct here--I hope I've said that right). I've tried every button and menu item I can to find them, but I can't locate them anywhere. How do I get them to show so that I can select them and load files into them? Are they gone forever? Can they be restored? As you can probably tell, I'm not very tech-literate. But I sure would helpful appreciate advice. Thanks! GL

Just a small query....is there a setting somewhere in WS-FTP Pro 2007 which would allow for a synchronization of the Local and Remote side when navigating on the Local side.... What I mean is, when I navigate from folder to folder on the Local side, is there a way so that the Remote side would automatically navigate to the same folder.... As it is now I have to do some deep navigation to get to the correct folder/file on the Local side,then I have to do the same deep navigation on the Remote side to transfer the file and sometimes this gets very tedious, especially when I have lots of folders with-in folders, with-in folders to get to a file... I know I could not find such a setting, even though I have searched high and low but, that does not mean there isn't one.... hope you all understand all this, kind regards, Paul ps: if this is not possible with WS-FTP Pro 2007 do the newer versions of WS-FTP Pro have a feature that would allow the above to take place...

Hi I am Carol. I want a help regarding the topic mentioned in the Topic title. I am running a code related to ftp data connections and data transfer which is implementing passive data connection using the command PASV. I implemented the same for active data connection using the command PORT, but i am getting the error "425 can't open data connection". Can anyone please help me solve this.
