Yes this is the preeminent question which you have raised that "why so many new search engines at once?". Basically,The spell of science and technology has changed the world. Now we are taking about the flying kite and the 642-974 and also the 642-973 as well as the 642-975 exams and the terms related to the computer. Its totally a dreamy objects for the ancient people.I think that is the basic reason behind search engine utilization.

This is really neat but seems to be missing stuff. I did read that its pretty 'rough' still and obviously the BETA makes that clear. I like the conccept. :o

First - why so many new search engines at once? Wolfram, Bing, now Squared..

Second - Squared is AWESOME. Check out how it grids everything you want to see: http://www.google.com/squared/search?q=monkeys . And you can SAVE results - thats really cool!

hey pete2-

This is interesting news -- i read another article on marketingvox.com, pointing out the same downward trend that paid search is experiencing this spring.

Paid Search Takes Recession Hit

I can see how many consumer retailers might see a downward trend on total visitor traffic from search engines, but I would think the recession would also mean consumers are hunting for deals and coupons online. I tend to find most 'special deals' or limited discounts in the paid search ads. But, that's just me as an online shopper.
Paid Search Traffic Share Down 26% from Hitwise reports that paid traffic from search engines is declining. Hitwise’s data said “in the four weeks to May 9, 2009, 7.25% of search engine traffic to All Categories of websites was from paid clicks. This compares to 9.84% in the same four week period in 2008 - representing a 26% decline in the share of paid clicks.”
