Anyone here have/use the Kindle?
(6 posts)-
Hey Planet! First- awesome design on the site, I am beyond impressed! Love how the new forums are working too.
I was wondering if anyone here has the Amazon Kindle ebook reader? Its hard to find 'regular' opinions on these things - so much bias out there.

I haven't used the Kindle yet, but just recently heard that some Universities are planning to put course text books on the Kindle. I don't remember which schools specifically, but that will be interesting if it becomes a common use.

Ah - more info here, from Gizmodo
Amazon's new Kindle DX boasts a newspaper-friendly screen that's 2.5x bigger than the standard Kindle, but it's also got a few tricks of its own (new features in bold):
• 9.7-inch E-Ink screen (1200 x 824 with 16 shades of grey)
• 1/3 of an inch thick (10.4" x 7.2" x 0.38")
• 4GB Storage for 3,500 books (a bump from 1,500)
• Unspecified but "long" battery life
• Native PDF support through built-in reader
• Automatic landscape/portrait text rotation
• Navigation buttons moved to right side of screen only
• EVDO (of course) for 60-second book transfersNo denying it. The Kindle DX looks great, especially with that surprise landscape/portrait rotational sensitivity we find useful in so many smartphones. But $500? Really?
I noticed this forum talks about Kindle, but recently things have changed with the iPad out in the market. I was wondering if anyone here thinks laptop usage will begin to drop as the iPad and others on the way start pulling people away from the desktop/laptop computers and check their 'stuff' on the go. Also, any recommendation on remote desktop apps for the iPad?
