    Hey Everyone,

We just launched a free piece of software called Conexme at www.conexme.com and need people to start using it and providing feedback and bugs. Conexme is a really easy way to connect to your friends and share files with each other. You can also use it to access your files remotely. Please check it out and let us know what you think!

    Thanks,

    Kevin

    Basic Overview:

Conexme will allow you to connect and share files between one or more computers on the Internet. You'll find a lot of cool features as you explore it (e.g. folder transfers, transfer resume, uploading, etc.). The Conexme client has to be running on the computers that you want to connect to and share files with (i.e. if you want to connect to your friend and share stuff, you both have to have the client launched and running. Same thing if you want to connect to your other personal computers).

    Getting Started Instructions:

    1. Go to the Conexme website and Sign Up.

    2. Launch the Conexme client from the Download/Install link on the website and login (Java JRE 1.5+ is required so download and install it if you don't already have it).

    3. Create a new location (e.g. Home) and bind to it (you can create multiple locations under your account so you can connect back to your personal computers from any other computer).

    4. Click the "Menu" button at the top right of the application and load the Welcome, Share, Transfers, and Settings tabs.

    5. Go Settings >> Connectivity, write down the port for incoming connections, and port forward your router the same way you would for uTorrent or the like (btw, only one computer has to do this because Conexme uses synchronous connections... therefore, your friends and family don't have to port forward their routers as long as yours is!)

Now, you can do one of two things:

    1. Call a friend and have them sign up and setup the Conexme client.

    2. Launch Conexme on another one of your computers (over the Internet or on the same network).

    If you choose option 1:

    1. After your friend has signed up and launched/setup Conexme, right-click in your contact list (the far right vertical window in the app) and click "Add Contact".

    2. Type your friend's username into the textbox at the bottom of the contact list.

    3. Your friend will now see you in his contact list and must click the big green check mark to authenitcate you as a trusted contact.

    4. Click the "Share" tab and drag and drop some files or folders into it to share them with your friend. Have your friend do the same.

    5. Click the folder w/ magnifying glass icon (in your contact list) to the right of your friend's current location under their username to connect to their computer. A new tab will now pop up showing you your friend's shared files.

    6. Try downloading some files and folders by clicking the little green down arrow at the top left of shared files and folders. Your first download will bring up a popup window for you to specify a download directory. You can change this directory anytime either through settings or the same browse window. You can also select multiple files/folders, right click, and click "Download" to queue up many files at once.

    If you choose option 2:

    1. Login to Conexme on the other computer.

    2. Create and bind to a new location (e.g. Laptop).

    3. Load the Welcome, Share, Transfers, and Settings tabs.

    4. Click the "Share" tab and drag and drop some files or folders into it. Also do this on the first computer.

    5. Expand "My Locations" in your contact list (the far right vertical window in the app).

    6. Click the folder w/ magnifying glass icon to the right of your other online location. A new tab will pop up showing you the files you shared on the first computer.

    7. Try downloading some files and folders by clicking the little green down arrow at the top left of shared files and folders. Your first download will bring up a popup window for you to specify a download directory. You can change this directory anytime either through settings or the same browse window. You can also select multiple files/folders, right click, and click "Download" to queue up many files at once.

wow, that is really a neat deal....I like it...we could use in an organization that I volunteer for...many members send me files via email so, this could replace that and I could recieve files via conexme ... only thing I have concernes about is security ...

Thanks, we're glad you like Conexme so far. As far as security goes, all password transactions are encrypted and we're working on an SSL data stream. So, just keep your username and password safe and don't accept unknown users into your contact list and you'll be safe. Have fun and enjoy Conexme.

Here's what Conexme is in a nutshell:

Conexme is a new way to connect computers together over the Internet:

    - Share files w/ friends & family
    - Access your files remotely
    - No size, quantity or rate limits
    - Quickly launch from anywhere
    - Works on Windows, OSX, & Ubuntu
    - Completely free

You can use Conexme if you need to:

    - send or receive large files over the Internet.
    - send or receive large files over a network.
    - access your home and office files while away.
    - backup files from one computer to another.
    - find a transfer solution easier to use than FTP.
    - find a transfer solution not limited like email.

    Hope this helps.
