HTTPS transfer to CONNECT:Enterprise
(3 posts)-
I am failing to be able to transfer a file from either WS_FTP Professional 2006 or SecureTransport 4.5.1 to a site with CONNECT:Enterprise from Sterling Software. I can log onto the target company's website in a browser and manually push a file, but have not succeeded in transferring a file using WS_FTP. STClient does not even make the connection.
This is for a business process that I need to automate to transfer without human intervention. If anyone has insight into CONNECT:Enterprise and what it takes to transfer a file using HTTPS, please respond. Thanks in advance!

Hello Jim,
Your post intrigued me because of the Sterling reference. There are a number of ways to go with this one, so I'll list a few ideas.
- The current version of the WS_FTP Professional client is 12.0, and 12.0 includes HTTP support and various bug fixes that older versions lack. Are you in a position to upgrade?
- Can you talk to live individuals at the CONNECT:Enterprise site about whether or not they make access to FTP/S available? (If so, WS_FTP Professional works best here by forcing host type to "Unix", as CONNECT:Enterprise can return directory listings in either native or Unix format.)
- If automated file transfer involving many servers is more of the focus (and the CONNECT:Enterprise issue is just one challenge), have you looked at our MOVEit Central product line?

Hey Jim,
I have installed and setup connect:enterprise more times than I care to remember. You can automate to a connect:enterprise server without any problems. They have installed the https module that sits on a webserver to protect the internal server.
A couple of suggestions. Talk to the support person at the company you are trying to connect to. Ask to have your IP address allowed across the firewall. They should give you the process to do that. Then connect with sftp or your choice of clients. Connect:Enterprise does not support TLS authentication methods either with the web interface or directly because it is a competing encryption schema and outdated.
It is unlikely that you will find a client that will allow you to connect to the https webserver. However with a little digging you should be able to connect directly to the server. If you can PM me with the company you are trying to connect to I can probably direct you to someone who set it up.
Thanks,
Josh Rule
