index deleted, can it be restored?
(4 posts)-
I hope my explanation makes some sense. I'm not sure I did everything correctly.
I went through FileZilla, and moved my folders into the right side box, on the server host. There seemed to be a problem with the display. When I talked with someone (who admittedly knew only slightly more than I), he said that the folder (that was already in that right box, with a name 'index'), was causing the webpage to display a message "Test Page". He said he thought that the 'index' folder had to be removed, in order for my webpage to display, so he removed the 'index' folder.
Now I get a message, "Directory Listing Denied This Virtual Directory does not allow contents to be listed".
I'm beginning to think the 'index' folder should have remained, and the words "Test Page" removed, and some other directions inserted.
What can do now???Posted 2 years ago # -
your host can provide you with the proper information as to how to place your webpage in the correct folder ... most internet service providers, ISP are very specific in this regard...most also require that the "main" page be named a specific title for example, index, home or welcome...the index folder probably should have stayed and all you would of have to have done is replace the "test page" with the "page" of your own....now that being said try contacting your 'Host' and see if they can replace that folder...

Well, I contacted the server, and got the 'index' folder replaced.
I put in the Where is my Home Page command, and now I get a plain white screen, with a link that says "Where is my Home Page". If I click that link, the home page opens.
Question; How do I get the Home Page to open automatically? (Sorry the 'Compact Guide that I'm using, doesn't cover this).

Paul,
Thank you for your assistance.
After getting the 'index' folder replaced, and experimenting with the code, I figured I'd try re-saving my 'home' folder as 'index', then removing the index folder (saving it to my computer, so I didn't lose it again), and reloading my re-named 'home'/'index' file. This worked.
The server was looking for a file named 'index', as you stated.
This problem has been resolved.
Thanks again,
