Is FTP Password logon secure?
(2 posts)-
I have had two websites hacked recently and it appears that a network sniffer picked up the FTP Password logon because I was using an old version of WSFTP_PRO (8.02) that provided the passwords in the clear(?).
Question: using SSL (which my ISP apparently supports) and/or the latest version of WSFTP_HOME or WSFTP_PRO, will the password be completely secure? I just want to be sure that my sites don't get hacked again :(
I did talk to someone at IPSwitch, but they didn't sound like they really understood or knew the answer for sure. Thanks for any comments...

To provide you with some assurance -- the answer to your question is Yes. Your password would be completely encrypted when connecting over SSL (whether it's FTPS, SFTP and HTTPS).
Also, keep in mind that any FTP client could be 'sniffed' (whether it's ws_ftp, filezilla, cute, smartftp, etc). Authentication is handled the same way and could be sniffed if not using a secure connection.
Hope that helps!
