Looking for ideas
(2 posts)-
Hi I am looking to do something and I am not sure where to get started.
The goal is to have a PC upload a file at a specified time to my server.
The FTP part that I am not sure on a product or service is that I would like an easy way to error check. In the end there will be quite a few PC's uploading to one server so a notification like email about a failed upload is something I am interested in.
Do I need just a ftp server that can manage this or will there need to be a client that does some of the work?
Sorry, I am very new to the abilities of the ftp programs and am hoping to find a good place to start.
Thanks

Most FTP clients have connection logs you can check to ensure the transfer completed successfully. But, you'll have to check each PC's FTP program.
Ideally, you can utilize the Notification Settings built-in to your FTP Server software. You can setup notifications for email, SMS text, pagers.
I'm more familiar with WS_FTP Server. The User Guide walks thru Notifications in Chapter 9.
