Remote Editing
(4 posts)-
In WS_FTP Professional, the 'Edit' option allows you to edit a file that's on a remote site. Select a file from the 'remote site' (right pane), right click, and then select 'Edit' from the available options. WS_FTP Professional will then transfer the file to a temp directory on your local system and open it with the associated 'edit' application (ex. Notepad for .txt files). When you close that application, WS_FTP Professional will automatically transfer the file back to the remote FTP site

Great info. As I am new...if I want to make changes to text, and perhaps add a Photo or banner, do I have to carry out this exercise twice? one in ASCI, and one in Binary, and are the images stored on a separate remote file to text?

You'll only be able to do remote editing on text based files.
To edit an image file, transfer it to your local system, edit it, and then transfer it back up.Posted 2 years ago # -
I have tired this a few times but being the human that I am I always seem to do something wrong.....that is why I prefer to ALWAYS edit on the local side first, preview the edits, for any errors, and then upload if all is correct....I mean, the ACTIVE EDIT feature is nice as long as you know for sure you never ever absolutly never make any mistakes.....
