   I have experienced random failures to list files on the remote server after logging on. When it happens it applies to any FTP site I log onto. Then later it clears up and they all list files fine. I can actually log onto the sites, and the last two commands are:
   < 200 PORT command successful.
   > LIST
   And then I get a time-out error if I wait long enough:
   < 425 Can't build data connection: Connection timed out
   My ISP is Earthlink, but trying to get an answer from their customer support is next to impossible. Any ideas?

   Well, the easiest solution was to change FTP programs. I switched to FileZilla and the problem disappeared.
